Most WWE fans expected Roman Reigns to defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, but a last-minute change apparently altered those plans.
Now, we may now why as F4WOnline.com (h/t WrestlingInc) has provided a major update on Lesnar's future after WWE recently announced that he had re-signed with the company:
Lesnar's new deal with WWE is said to be short-term, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer added that the deal will also allow Lesnar to return to the UFC for at least one fight, possibly more. It will be 6 months or so before Lesnar can fight due to the USADA testing, and Lesnar has yet to re-enter the testing poll. Meltzer speculated that Lesnar may not be looking to fight at all, using the UFC talk as leverage with WWE, but if that was the case then he likely would have signed a longer deal with WWE.
Lesnar's win over Reigns at WrestleMania 34 on Sunday came as a surprise to many as WWE had planned for the big title change since last year. Meltzer noted that plans were changed late, perhaps in the last week or so, but not at the last minute. The finish was kept from most everyone, including the writers and lead producers, who still thought Reigns was going to win the title. The referee did not know the finish of the match until the bout was in progress.
WHAT'S IT MEAN FOR WWE?
There continue to be a lot of questions about what Lesnar's future really holds, and that applies to both UFC and WWE.
It was widely reported that Lesnar's WWE contract expired at WrestleMania 34, and with so much uncertainty surrounding "The Beast," one would have thought WWE would make a much bigger deal out of his re-signing. When Lesnar re-signed with WWE in 2015, he was all over ESPN and seemed to get plenty more mainstream media coverage of his new WWE deal. This time around? WWE passingly announced his re-signing with an announcement on WWE.com and did not reveal any specifics about his new contract.
Though some reports indicate Lesnar has signed a new "multi-year deal," a report from PWTorch (h/t Cageside Seats) states that Lesnar's new deal may have "as few as two additional dates so Reigns can win the title in Saudi Arabia in front of a more receptive crowd." The natural speculation among fans is that the latter is true and that, given the overwhelmingly negative crowd reaction Lesnar vs. Reigns received at WrestleMania 34, WWE pulled an audible (whether during or before the match) so Reigns could win it at the Greatest Royal Rumble, where he'd likely receive significantly more cheers.
It does, after all, seem highly unlikely that WWE would spend so much time building up to what many expected to be Reigns' big Universal title win only for it to never actually happen. In fact, the Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez (h/t Ringside News) says the plan is still for Reigns to become Universal Champion, and the most likely time and place for his big win is that Greatest Royal Rumble event, which also may very well mark the end of Lesnar's new "short-term" deal.
So, don't be surprised if Reigns defeats Lesnar for the Universal Championship in Saudi Arabia on April 27, which would likely be Lesnar's final WWE appearance before he finds himself fighting in UFC once again.

Ronda Rousey Expected To Compete In WrestleMania 35 Main Event
WHAT'S THE DEAL?
WWE may already have its WrestleMania 35 main event.
According to the Wrestling Observer (h/t Cageside Seats), "WWE is already talking about Ronda Rousey in the main event of WrestleMania 35." In fact, PWStream (h/t Daily DDT) reports that "Charlotte [Flair] and Rousey are currently planned to face off against each other at WrestleMania 35."
WHAT'S IT MEAN FOR WWE?
It was once reported that Rousey would clash with Asuka at WrestleMania 35, with the idea being that it would be a battle of two undefeated superstars, but Asuka's loss to Flair at WrestleMania 34 obviously changed those plans.
Now, WWE seems to be moving forward with Rousey and Flair as the two cornerstones of the women's division, which undoubtedly appears to be the right move. Indeed, one could argue that Rousey and Flair participated in the two best matches at WrestleMania 34. Rousey had arguably the greatest in-ring debut in WWE history in a match that was light years better than what anyone probably expected, while Flair had one of the greatest women's matches in the history of pro wrestling.
There have long been conversations among fans about the possibility of two female superstars main eventing a WrestleMania, and Rousey vs. Flair certainly would be a great candidate to do just that. Rousey has already demonstrated that she's a draw in WWE and has the potential to be a phenomenal in-ring talent, while WWE's women's division has recently a ton of success as a strong driver of WWE Network and TV viewership.
Having Rousey vs. Flair as the WrestleMania 35 main event is a logical booking move that would position WWE's two most recognizable female superstars in a spot where they belong as the show's headlining match. After all, these two women absolutely stole the show at WrestleMania 34, and if those matches were any indication, they will tear the house down at WrestleMania 35 if given the chance to do so.
Of course, WWE is known for often changing its plans, but Reigns vs. Lesnar was planned for more than a year and indeed wound up happening at WrestleMania 34. Perhaps the same will be true for Rousey vs. Flair. Well, at least it should be.

Rey Mysterio Likely Returning To WWE At The Greatest Royal Rumble
WHAT'S THE DEAL?
Rey Mysterio is finally set to make his WWE return.
According to PWInsider.com (h/t WrestlingInc), Mysterio will appear at the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27, though it isn't yet clear if his appearance is a one-off deal or if it will lead to something more:
Rey Mysterio is set to make his WWE return at the Greatest Royal Rumble event, according to PWInsider...No word yet on who Mysterio will be facing in Saudi Arabia or if he will be participating in the 50-Man Rumble match with Chris Jericho and others.
Rey was backstage for WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans and continues to talk with the company. There is still no word yet on a contract being reached for Rey to return full-time or part-time but he has agreed to work the Greatest Royal Rumble event. Rey made his long-awaited return to the WWE ring for the 2018 Royal Rumble match and has in talks with the company since. Officials have wanted the former World Heavyweight Champion to sign a full-time deal but he's more interested in a part-time run.
WHAT'S IT MEAN FOR WWE?
There have been a lot of twists and turns in the saga of Mysterio's potential return.
Mysterio's surprise return at the 2018 Royal Rumble was a massive hit on YouTube, and it's believed by many that the shockingly high level of interest in his appearance is what really set the wheels in motion for him to re-sign with the company. At one point, Mysterio was linked to a possible WrestleMania 34 match against John Cena, and even though that obviously didn't happen, numerous reports have stated there has been mutual interest between both sides about Mysterio rejoining WWE.
However, as noted by WrestlingInc, the biggest holdup to a potential return for Mysterio may very well be the type of contract he signs. With Mysterio reportedly wanting a part-time deal but WWE wanting him back full-time, perhaps the two sides will have to meet halfway and agree to a deal that sees Mysterio work more dates than your average part-timer but fewer than your typical full-timer. That seems like a solid happy medium that could potentially bring back Mysterio in the near future not long after he proved to be a big hit with fans.
WWE could certainly use Mysterio's presence as an upper midcard babyface on Raw or SmackDown, while a more out-of-the-box idea would see him return to be the face of the Cruiserweight division and 205 Live, which could use Mysterio's presence to improve its struggling viewership on the WWE Network. Although there is no clear indication of whether or not Mysterio's appearance at the Greatest Royal Rumble will lead to a full or part-time return, it, at the very least, is a good sign that WWE could potentially sign him sometime soon.

Possible Plans For AJ Styles And The WWE Championship
WHAT'S THE DEAL?
We may have gotten a huge spoiler regarding future plans for AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura and the WWE Championship.
According to PWMania.com, TV advertisements in Pittsburgh, which will host Extreme Rules on July 15, indicate that Styles will compete in a triple threat match for the WWE title on the PPV:
Local TV advertisements have seemingly spoiled the WWE Title Match at the event.
The ad showed WWE Champion AJ Styles facing Shinsuke Nakamura and Baron Corbin in a triple threat match.
WHAT'S IT MEAN FOR WWE?
While it's imperative to note that advertisements like these are (obviously) done well in advance and could change, they often give a solid indication of WWE's creative plans.
Back in December 2017, the Nationwide Arena spoiled the main event match for SmackDown's Fastlane PPV in March, and though that match was altered slightly from what the advertisement said it would be, it ultimately turned out to be fairly accurate. If plans to do Styles vs. Nakamura vs. Corbin also hold true, this would be a very similar situation of WWE spoiling its own creative plans months in advance at a time when rumors have been abuzz about Styles' future on the blue brand.
Styles has long been rumored for a move to Raw, essentially in a swap for Seth Rollins, but this advertisement would both explain why Styles retained the WWE title at WrestleMania 34 and also seem to indicate that he's staying on SmackDown during next week's "Superstar Shakeup." Many fans have thought Styles might move because he's already accomplished just about everything he could do on SmackDown, but with Styles helping propel the show to TV ratings success and Reigns already being on Raw, perhaps WWE felt that Styles would be better off on SmackDown.
You could argue that Styles is WWE's No. 2 full-time star behind only Reigns (and his likely strong merchandise sales would seem to support that), so it's understandable that WWE would want him to stay put given that it's unlikely Reigns would move to SmackDown. This also suggests that we will get an extended feud between Styles and the newly heel Nakamura, which could certainly be a very entertaining feud to carry the blue brand throughout this summer.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW?
- Raw averaged a whopping 3.921 million viewers, a substantial increase from last year's post-WrestleMania episode, which averaged 3.767 million viewers. That has to be considered a massive success for WWE and a sign that fans were quite intrigued by what happened at the pay-per-view.
- SmackDown viewership rose by 19.7% to an average of 2.952 million viewers, making it the most watched episode of SmackDown since the post-WrestleMania 33 show in April 2017, which averaged 2.885 million viewers. Chalk that up as a big win for WWE.
- WWE amassed a record 2.12 million WWE Network subscribers for WrestleMania 34, a number that is certainly inflated due to the amount of free subscribers who signed up simply to get their first month free and watch WrestleMania, of course.
- Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon reportedly got into a "heated" altercation after WrestleMania 34 last Sunday, and it appears the dispute was regarding Lesnar going "off script," including Reigns bleeding and an unplanned spot in which the German announce table was broken.
- In addition to Lesnar re-signing with WWE on a "short-term deal," Paul Heyman has apparently done the same, so it'll be interesting to see just how much longer these two stick around and what effect their new deals have on WWE's booking moving forward.
- According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, while John Cena is still WWE's No. 1 merchandise seller, Styles and Reigns are in a constant battle for No. 2. Other stars with strong merchandise sales are Finn Balor, Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins and The New Day. No surprises there.
- The site also reports that Bray Wyatt may ultimately turn on Matt Hardy and then join Sanity as its leader. However, we've been there done that with Wyatt as a heel, so it's time to give him an extended babyface run.
- WWE may soon begin offering different tiers for the WWE Network, including a premium tier that would be more expensive but would obviously offer more content than the traditional $9.99 tier..
- Despite making his highly anticipated WWE return on Raw, Bobby Lashley is still under contract with Bellator, though there is no definitive word on his next fight or his long-term MMA future.
- Chris Jericho will be participating in the 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble match, which may either be a one-off deal or the sign of an impending return for one more run. It is The Undertaker who will take on Jericho in a casket match at the Greatest Royal Rumble event, perhaps an indication that "The Deadman" may wrestle more frequently going forward.
- Contrary to recent reports, Dolph Ziggler has not re-signed with WWE and may ultimately end up choosing to leave the company, says "The Showoff" himself.
- If advertisements are any indication, Asuka could be moving to the blue brand in the "Superstar Shakeup" as she is advertised for multiple SmackDown live events this summer. That would be a bit of a surprise, although Charlotte Flair's shocking title loss on SmackDown suggests WWE could flip flop those two stars for one another.
- According to Cageside Seats, "A rumor from terezowens.com says UFC’s next TV deal will be with ESPN and NBC. If true, this is seen as another sign WWE could be headed to Fox." This is certainly something to keep an eye on moving forward as it could have huge ramifications for WWE's next TV deal.
- Vince McMahon reportedly is a big fan of Baron Corbin, so despite his lack of a push, Corbin could have a bright future ahead of him.
