With "The Beast" continuing to toe the line between babyface and heel into Tweenerville and with Joe's recent injury shelving him for at least a few weeks, WWE showed during last week's episode of Monday Night Raw that The Miz is WWE's top on-screen villain but has ultimately become much more than that. Face, heel, tweener, it doesn't matter. The Miz is one of WWE's biggest stars, period. And WWE knows it.
It's been roughly 13 years since The Miz made his WWE debut, but it wasn't until recently that he became one of the company's most recognizable faces. Although he's not quite as well known in the mainstream as, let's say, John Cena or even Lesnar, his latest outside endeavor now gives WWE a very good reason to elevate him back to world title contention.
On last week's episode of Raw, WWE announced that The Miz and his wife Maryse would star in a new, unscripted docuseries on the WWE Network titled Miz and Mrs. According to WWE.com, the "six-episode, half-hour series" is "expected to air in 2018" and is just the latest foray for The Miz into the world of (non-sports) entertainment, where he's already made quite the name for himself as an actor, reality show star and TV host.
The Miz is currently a recurring cast member on Total Divas, just ended a stint as the host of MTV's The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars and recently completed filming for The Marine 6, the latest installment of WWE Studios The Marine franchise. His involvement in Miz and Mrs., however, represents just the second time a WWE superstar has received his or her own reality spinoff show, following in the footsteps of the Bella Twins, who have become mainstream stars thanks to Total Bellas.
We've seen in the past that WWE can use the extra platform of a company-supported TV show to affect what we see on-screen. One great example is Cena's proposal to Nikki Bella at WrestleMania 33, which became a focal point of the recent season finale of Total Divas. Another example would be the recent addition of Alexa Bliss to the cast of Total Divas as Bliss, likely not coincidentally, is currently holding the Raw Women's Championship during her first season on the show.
Might The Miz do the same? Because he certainly should.
">WWE Raw now has a clear No. 1 heel in The Miz, who has surpassed even Brock Lesnar and Samoa Joe to become the red brand's top villain.
