Checklist: 2016 was a very good year for Johnny Gargano.
Cleveland born and raised, the passionate wrestler signed a deal with WWE in 2016. That same year his Cleveland Cavaliers won a historic NBA title.
A chubby kid growing up, Gargano, 30, is now one of the top superstars on the NXT roster, and for someone who is known as Johnny Wrestling, he landed in a great wrestling spot.

Gargano, one of several wrestlers from Ohio on the WWE roster, paid his dues, getting in the ring at age 8, starting training at 13 and debuting for Cleveland All Pro Wrestling at 16. He worked the indies and competed in China, England, Germany, Japan, Singapore, growing as a talent and as a person. Respectful of everyone -- talent, fans, promoters -- he did it the right way. Pro wrestling, he loves it, and it shows.

Gargano worked Ronin Pro Wrestling in South Florida in June 2016, and he not only had an incredible match with Martin Stone (WWE Danny Burch), but he also had some fun in a post-show skit with indie star Joey Ryan and super fan Lil CM Punk.
