5 Major WWE Stars Who Could Soon Return To The Company

Why? Because interest in WWE tends to be lower in the fall than at any other point in the year, something that is evidenced be Google search data, which shows that there is currently less interest in WWE than at any point since October 2016. Another bad sign for WWE: Raw recently hit its worst viewership since June, and so did SmackDown.

That's come to be expected at this point, as October is typically one of the worst months each year in terms of the quality of WWE's programming. The good news for WWE, however, is that Survivor Series is next month, and that's when things usually start to turn around as the company begins gearing up for The Royal Rumble and WrestleMania season. One of the biggest reasons why that's the case is because we often see the returns of major superstars, who bring along them with them the buzz and excitement that leads to a more entertaining product.

This year should be no different. Here are five major stars who could soon return to WWE.

Triple H

For the past several years, Triple H has found himself performing as a part-timer who only wrestles a few matches a year, if that.

In January 2017, he returned from a five-month absence on the post-Royal Rumble edition of Raw and helped that show to an average of 3.61 million viewers, making it one of the most watched episodes of Raw this year. In August 2016, Triple H's surprise return helped Raw average 3.41 million viewers, also one of the most watched episodes of the year and a more impressive feat when you consider that hour three (which featured Triple H's return) averaged more viewers than hour one, a true rarity in a world where viewership typically falls off in the third hour.

Clearly, Triple H has some drawing power left, and if history is any indication, you just know that he's going to show up at some point in the coming months to begin his WrestleMania rivalry. Triple H is rumored for a potential return storyline and feud with Kurt Angle, could potentially get involved in the angle between Shane McMahon and Kevin Owens, and he's even recently teased a potential blockbuster rivalry with another returning star.

Regardless of the specifics of his return, Triple H continues to be one of WWE's highest paid stars despite making very sporadic appearances, so rest assured he'll be back soon in some way, shape or form and will instantly be involved in one of the company's biggest angles.

The Rock

That major star Triple H is teasing having a dream feud with? None other than The Rock.

Here's what Triple H recently had to say about the matter on a Facebook Live interview with Sportskeeda (h/t Inquisitr):

About two years ago, he and I (The Rock) did a backstage promo with each other where we talked about WrestleMania, and the competitive nature of it and it lit up the internet about the possibility of it. It’s something we’ve discussed. It’s just making schedules work, he’s pretty busy I am too. But hey, right place, right time? I’ll dance one more time with The Great One, Rock.

Triple H's comments suggest that The Rock has had legitimate negotiations with WWE about working one more match, something that would obviously be a huge coup for the company. The Rock hasn't wrestled a true match since WrestleMania 29 (sorry, but we can't really count WrestleMania 32), and as one of the busiest men in show business, it would probably take a minor miracle for him to step back in the ring again.

That being said, The Rock, despite his Hollywood success, has openly expressed that nothing compares to performing live in front of a WWE crowd, and he could certainly be lured back for one last match if his schedule allows it. Of course, a no-brainer on WWE's part: If The Rock is willing to wrestle again, you bring him back without hesitation and put him in one of the biggest matches on the WrestleMania 34 card.

He's one of the world's most recognizable names and highest paid actors, and the last time he had a major WWE rivalry, it resulted in the most pay-per-view buys in company history. Who wouldn't want him back?
